Abraham Baldwin Chapter, NSDAR

Our Chapter was named in honor of Abraham Baldwin, born in 1754. He graduated from Yale College at age 18 and was admitted to the bar in 1784. Three months later, he was elected to the State Legislature and became the father of our University System, the University of Georgia. He was also a member of the Constitutional Convention of 1787 and helped to draft the U. S. Constitution, which he signed.

Abraham Baldwin was elected to the U. S. Congress in 1788. After that, he was re-elected to the House of Representatives every two years. Then, in 1798, he was elected to the U. S. Senate, where he served as a senator until he died in 1807.

Ruth Brock Kramer was the organizing chapter regent, and the chapter received its charter on April 1, 1953.
