The chapter had twenty-three founding members under the sponsorship of the Fielding Lewis Chapter. The founding Chapter Regent, Mrs. Marion Sheridan Bryan, was a descendant of Revolutionary War patriot Andrew Houser Jr., for whom the chapter was proudly named.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Houser family were Mennonites who immigrated to America in 1707 from Strausberg, Germany. They settled in Pennsylvania and became part of the Pennsylvania Dutch community. The family moved to South Carolina in 1755, and Andrew Houser Jr. was born there on April 2, 1755. He served as a private in the Fifth Regiment of the South Carolina Continentals in 1776 and later in the Second Regiment, State Dragoons.
