Our Chapter

The Earl of Camden Chapter, NSDAR was founded in July 1967 in St. Marys, Georgia. The chapter was named for Charles Pratt, 1st Earl of
Camden. He was a lawyer, judge, and Whig politician serving in the British Parliament. The Whigs supported the British colonies in America in their pursuit of representation in Parliament. Camden County is one of the original counties created by the first state constitution in 1777. It was created from St. Thomas and St. Marys Parishes and honored Charles Pratt because of his ardent support of independence for British colonists in America.

As a result of Pratt’s support for American independence, it was appropriate that the chapter be named after the Earl of Camden.
