He joined the Georgia Militia in 1776 and served during the American Revolutionary War and the War of 1812.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He was the great-grandfather of President Theodore Roosevelt. He married Susannah Oswald in 1785; their daughter, Martha, married Major James S. Bulloch. Their daughter, Martha Stewart Bulloch married Theodore Roosevelt, Sr. and was the mother of President Roosevelt. He served in the legislature as a state representative from 1785 to 1787, sheriff of Liberty County from 1795 to 1797, and state senator from 1802 to 1811. In 1791, he was placed upon a committee in the name of the Church and Society at Midway to present an address to General Washington, who was<br>on a visit to Georgia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fort Stewart and Stewart County, Georgia, are named after Daniel Stewart. The Stewart\u2013Screven Monument at Midway Congregational Church was erected in 1915 in honor of Stewart and Revolutionary War General James Screven. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">General Stewart died at his home in Liberty County on May 27, 1829, and is buried in the Midway cemetery among his ancestors.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our Chapter General Daniel Stewart, illustrious soldier and patriot, was born in the Parish of St. John, Liberty County, Georgia, on December 20, 1761, the sonof John and Susannah Stewart.
