Our Chapter
Mrs. John M. Graham, then State Regent of the DAR, asked Mrs. James F. Lewis, of Stewart County, Georgia, to undertake the organization of a chapter in Thomaston. Four months later, the National Board had confirmed the appointment of Mrs. Lewis on March 15, 1911. Mrs. Lewis selected the name John Houstoun because he identified himself at Tondee’s Tavern in Savannah as part of the revolutionary movement. John Houstoun was twice elected Governor of Georgia. This year, the John Houstoun Chapter will be serving 115 years for the DAR.
