Our chapter is named after Levi S. Sapp, a Revolutionary soldier. Levi Sapp holds the distinction of being the only known Revolutionary Soldier buried in a marked grave in what is now Cook County. He was born in Virginia on 6 January 1761 and died on 30 August 1854 in what was then Lowndes County. Both he and his wife, Celia, are buried in marked graves at Salem (Woodlawn City Cemetery). The couple had at least seven children. Their movement into South GA is evident in various Census listings and land records. They were in Emanuel, Montgomery, Tattnall, Thomas, and Telfair counties, and finally in Lowndes by 1849. Sapp land eventually became Berrien County and then Cook County. Their last census listings were in 1850. Levi’s Revolutionary War status was proven by his Lucky Draw in the GA Land Lottery of 1827. An “RS” beside his name meant he provided proof of his military service.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Our Chapter Levi Sapp Chapter in Adel, Georgia, was organized on November 21, 2003.
