Our Chapter
The Savannah chapter was organized on April 5, 1892, two years after the National Society was founded, making it the fourth-oldest chapter in Georgia. Unlike many others, the chapter was not named after an American patriot but rather after the city of Savannah, which played a significant role in the American Revolution.
In 1908, the chapter laid the groundwork for a handsome memorial arch at the entrance to the colonial cemetery. For six years, members worked on various projects to finance this ambitious gift to the city. On Georgia Day, February 12, 1914, the Savannah chapter presented the arch to the city, and the mayor accepted it on behalf of Savannah’s citizens.
